Summer Art Exercises: July 7 – Early Mornings, Late Evenings
Early Mornings, Late Evenings
When you take photographs for the purpose of painting from them be sure to take them either early in the morning or late in the evening. It is during these times of the day that the sun is low and all objects cast the longest shadows. The greater contrast of shadows and highlights will help you to push your values in your compositions. Remember, value is structure!
So this week take your coffee out early in the morning and drink your wine out on the porch in the late evening and snap some photos. Painting from photographs with stronger light and dark value differences will generate some very dynamic painting compositons!
Cheers!
