Julia Lawing
Fundamentals & Studio Landscape Instructor,
Born in Atlanta, Julia moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia, at age 12. Growing up in the Golden Isles instilled a deep appreciation for nature, light and wetlands.
Julia earned a BA in Journalism at UNC with a concentration in drawing and art history. While employed at Savannah College of Art and Design and later the Charlotte Observer, she continued creative exploration through night classes in everything from stained glass to ceramics. As a young mom, Julia taught elementary art and docented at the Cabarrus County Arts Council, which inspired further pursuit of her own artistic calling. She began oil painting through classes at Braitman Studio in 2014.
Julia creates in her studio at ClearWater Arts Center in Concord's Gibson Village. Her art is featured in private and corporate collections across the U.S., including several Towne Bank branches and Georgia State University’s College of Law. Julia's paintings have been reproduced and installed as Artpop billboards, window clings, and sheet metal. See Julia's work at julialawing.com
