Weekly Lecture: A Dialogue with Nicholas Stewart
Artist Nicholas Stewart gave a lecture in Contemporary Concepts class this morning: "How to Create Beauty out of Nothing". All art, representational and non-representational, should always reference SOMETHING... In Stewart's case, Nature and it's patterns are what really inspire his work. In each painting, there is always some reference to reality and, although all the rules of traditional painting still apply, he's discovered new ways to create depth and fluidity throughout the canvas.
His willingness to experiment with different chemicals; to try and ultimately fail and then to struggle full of nothing but curiosity, is what makes him and his process unique.
